About the Program

The Photography program provides students with a working knowledge of black-and-white and color photography, and fundamental laboratory and technical skills required for entry-level employment. The curriculum is designed to teach students to become independent professional photographers or to work as technician/photographers for others. Photography is a two-year Associate Degree program.

Career Opportunities

Photography is used in virtually every field in this media-conscious age. Public relations and advertising firms, newspapers, magazines and the fashion industry are among the more traditional employers.

Camera and lab skills also are required for portraiture, wedding and scientific photography. Staff photographers are employed by industrial and architectural firms, hospitals, telecommunication and record companies, galleries and schools, as well as state agencies. Photographers also are needed for aerial surveying for land and/or agricultural development projects.

Working photographers encounter challenges requiring their technical skills and artistic innovation. Jobs involve scheduling photographic assignments for a variety of clients.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate the safe use of photographic equipment in the studio and on location.
Produce photographic images for a variety of applications including industrial, medical, product display, architectural, portrait, food and fashion modeling.
Use computer software to edit and enhance photographic images for a variety of media including magazines, newspapers, brochures, television, and the internet.
Produce a selection of photographic images for a professional resume.

Software developers are needed in many different industries from biotechnology to telecommunications and transport. An SQA HND Computing: Software Development will give learners the skills and theoretical knowledge that they need as they move into higher education and employment. The software development activities covered include new development, modification, reuse, re-engineering, and maintenance.

The HND Computing courses aim to equip students with the necessary skills required to follow a career in the computing field at a professional or junior managerial level.

They are also aimed at those who wish to study computing at this level before undertaking a career in another field where such skills are subsidiary, but often very necessary.

The HND Computing: Software Development award will prepare students for employment in an IT/Computing-related post at technician or professional level in a software development role.

The HND Computing: Technical Support award will prepare students for employment in an IT/Computing-related post at technician or professional level in a technical support role.

Semester 1

Graphic Design

The objective of this semester is to introduce the students to the world of Animation with concepts of drawing. The journey comprises of various art, design and animation techniques and in further understanding the fundamentals of camera actions and movements. At the completion of this semester, a student can accomplish a short movie in traditional animation.

Semester 2

2D Animation

This semester makes students explore their traditional skills in terms of computers and helps understand the digital technology for animation. The student walks through a 2Dimensional Digital technique of creating a cartoon and realistic characters involving anatomy construction, the creation of environments and implementation of the principles involved in Animation.

Semester 3

3D Animation

Special Effects This semester evolves the student to the final outcome by exploring Dynamics and Special Effects in 3D, compiling the movie by editing, mixing and color grading. The final output comprises a 3D short animated film involving the different modules

Social Media & Marketing

Social Media and Web Marketing will provide students with the essential knowledge, skills, and tools to assist in running effective, successful online and social media marketing campaigns for businesses. Students will gain a solid understanding of the digital tools and techniques to promote brand visibility and increase traffic flow through search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, search engine optimization (SEO), content marketing and business analytics.

Students will also learn about the social media practices that have emerged from the exponential growth of social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram. The program includes real-world training with a work experience placement in the field before graduation.

Civil Engineering plays a key part in the creation and protection of our structural environment. If you are interested in the planning, design and construction of all forms of infrastructure and have a passion for building strong relationships with clients and contractors then Civil Engineering is for you. A Civil Engineering qualification will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, design and manage the construction of various infrastructure including residential, commercial and industrial buildings; roads, rail, dams and bridges. You will also acquire the technical knowledge and skills to draft plans, survey sites and compile engineering reports. There is great demand for technically trained Civil Engineers in New Zealand and worldwide or do further degree study. Tutors also work with local industry to provide real world experiences as part of the programme.
